A Completely Miscalculated Flight

August 1, 2023 by Dave5 Comments

I had booked my flight from Erbil (or so I thought) a few weeks ago. When it came time to sadly leave Iraq, I departed my guesthouse in Erbil and arrived at the airport. The first security check involved lines of cars stacked up as three cars in each lane were checked by guards at one time. Passengers opened all of their doors and trunks, dogs were involved, sniffing the tires and inside of each car and each person in each vehicle was subjected … [Read more...]

Amazing day trips from Juneau

May 16, 2023 by Hailey MartinLeave a Comment

Juneau, the state capital of Alaska, is a gorgeous destination in its own right, but its principal attraction is its position as a gateway to some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the world. The city itself offers a wealth of attractions - you could spend days exploring the cafes and restaurants, kayaking in the Gastineau Channel, or hiking in the hills that surround it - but venturing out of the city on day trips opens up some of … [Read more...]

Cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage with Holland America

July 1, 2022 by Dave3 Comments

One of the great things about cruising is leaving the logistics to others. Certain destinations are ideally suited to cruises including Alaska, due to its vast geographical distances, remote landscapes and rugged coastal beauty. Our Alaskan Inside Passage cruise was on the Holland America Eurodam, a ship whose inaugural sail was in 2008. We first cruised on this particular ship in 2015 in the Caribbean. One certainly becomes spoiled, merely … [Read more...]

A Beautiful Day in Kundasang, Sabah

June 20, 2022 by Teh Chin Liang4 Comments

My worn slippers scuffed against the rock-strewn path, crunching gravel and pebbles underneath the thin sole. The peak of Mount Kinabalu was clearly visible miles ahead of me. The horizon was painted in flaming red as the sun began to penetrate the mist and brighten up the sleepy green valley down below. A brisk morning stroll took me to a war memorial on a hill. Standing at the top of the staircase, I watched the quiet town slowly come to … [Read more...]
