Las Vegas, NV
Las Vegas is a large sprawling glitzy city situated in the middle of the high desert surrounded by stark high desert mountains. Words such as surreal, fast-paced and hyper-reality quickly come to mind when describing Las Vegas. Words such as subtle and quiet are not often associated with this city. Las Vegas used to be known as a gambling and casino city. Those who haven't visited in 20-30 years would be absolutely shocked to see what Las … [Read more...]

Land Mines are still a huge problem in Cambodia. The main paved/dirt road from the Thai/Cambodia border town of Poipet is well marked with signs on both sides of the road indicating that it is very dangerous to walk off the road. Over 100 people each month in Cambodia are maimed or killed by stepping on unexploded land mines. The Land Mine Museum is well worth visiting - it is sobering, sad and educational at the same time. It is located not far … [Read more...]

Lamu, Kenya – Shopping
Gallery Baraka is an excellent gallery selling items from West Africa as well as some crafts (especially Maasai beadwork) created in other parts of Kenya. Reno, NV – Attractions
For a town of this size there are a fair number of attractions that are worth seeing. BaseCamp Reno is extremely unique; it is the world's tallest climbing wall (either indoor or outdoor) - in this case it is located outside on the east wall of the Whitney Peak Hotel (tall is a theme here - this hotel is appropriately named for the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states, Mt. Whitney - located in neighboring California). The climbing … [Read more...]
