Arena di Verona – Verona – June 1st – September 7th, 2013
The Arena itself dates back to 30AD and this year the Arena di Verona Opera Festival is celebrating the centenary of its birth with 6 operas and 4 gala evenings. From June until September 2013 one of the most famous theaters of Italy will host on its stage excellent international artists that will make unique and unforgettable summer evenings. The Arena di Verona became the first open air opera house in Italy, and the largest in the world: a record it still holds today.

This has been the dream of the fifties in midsummer nights for thousands of enthusiasts and curious people for 14 years. The “Summer Jamboree”, the international festival devoted to 1940’s and 1950’s American music and culture, colors up the old town centre and promenade of Senigallia with swing and rock & roll. The music groups together strictly vintage-dressed rockers and glad eye pin-up girls, couples and families, curious ones and experts on shining Chevrolets and period trucks on the summer breeze.

Founded by Italian-born American composer Gian Carlo Menotti as a bridge between the European and the American artistic worlds, the Festival of Two Worlds also known as Spoleto Festival is an international event with a spectacular program including operas, concerts, ballets, recitals, plays, film festivals, art exhibitions, conferences, special events and much more. Each day holds multiple events in numerous venues throughout the town, many of them free of charge.

These are only some of the artists lined up for the 2013 edition of the Lucca Summer Festival: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Mark Knopfler, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Bryan Adams, The Killers, Leonard Cohen. Started in 1998, the festival is held within the splendid walled medieval town of Lucca, in Piazza Napoleone during the month of July.

There’s a lot of summer festivals in Puglia too. I have been spending my summer vacations in Puglia for the past 3 years and the place is still as magical as it was during my first visit.
