Guided vineyard bicycle tours, stand up paddle, zip-lines and hot rods heat up summer
SANTA ROSA, CA – May 30, 2013 – Sonoma County, a region predominantly known for its wine and culinary offerings, is showing visitors its adventurous side with new and exciting activities this summer. From guided vineyard bicycle tours to paddle boarding the Petaluma River, Sonoma’s summer adventures create unique experiences for travelers of all ages. To take full advantage of the al fresco season, the Green Music Center has scheduled top classical, jazz and world music presentations, making for the perfect evening activity after a day of adventures under the sun. Below is a sampling of new distinctive activities available throughout Sonoma County this summer:
Bicycle Tour through Historic Roche Vineyards
Visitors can travel through the Roche family’s vineyard and private estate on two wheels with this 90-minute guided bicycle tour alongside olive trees and rows of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah vines. Each tour is led by a professional guide and includes complimentary tastings following the ride at the Roche Winery Tasting Room in downtown Sonoma. Petaluma Stand Up Paddle
Water lovers are encouraged to experience the Petaluma River from a different perspective with the launch of Petaluma Stand Up Paddle, a growing sport where guests paddle through the water while standing on a surfboard. Visitors can choose from a variety of experiences with the boards ranging from lessons and eco-tours to Stand Up Paddle Yoga Classes. A Sunset Paddle Tour is prime for beginners, as it includes an introductory lesson and a guided paddle into Petaluma for $80 per person. Rental rates start at $20 per hour or $55 for the day. Walk-a-Bout Healdsburg
Scandalous stories and haunted tales collide in Healdsburg, and the newly launched Walk-a-Bout Healdsburg tours are inviting guests to come along as secrets are revealed. Guided by local resident and business owner, Lori Moore, the 90-minute walking tour includes stops at a local bed & breakfast and the Healdsburg Museum. Tours cost $25 per person for up to four people. Group rates apply for parties larger than four. Sonoma Canopy Tours
A Sonoma County staple, Sonoma Canopy Tours brings the adrenaline rush as visitors zip-line through the world-famous California Coastal Redwoods. Guests can enjoy a two-and-a-half hour guided eco-tour that includes seven zip lines, two sky bridges, a spiral staircase and an 80-foot rappel. Tour prices are $89 per adult, ages 18-58; $69 for adults 59 or older; and $49 for children 10-17 years of age. Wine Tasting with Horse Power
Car lovers can feel like they are back in time as they cruise picturesque Sonoma in authentic cars from the 1960’s and 70’s with Hot Rod Tours. The vintage hot rods available include a ’64 Chevrolet Impala, a ’70 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport Convertible and a ’69 Pontiac Firebird 850 Convertible. The High Performance Tour includes a four-hour rental through three wine valleys with stops at four to six wineries and a picnic lunch along the way. Tours start at $375 and are available Thursdays-Monday and for up to four people at a time.
After an exhilarating day, guests can relax with renowned musical performances at Sonoma State University’s Donald and Maureen Green Music Center in Rohnert Park. With a highly successful 2012 grand opening season, the center returns with a packed summer schedule.
