New Orleans City Park welcomes visitors with bundled package of top family attractions
New Orleans, LA (May 30, 2013) – With 1,300 acres of sprawling oak trees and green space, winding bayous and lakes, walking paths and more, New Orleans City Park is recognized as one of the largest, most expansive urban public parks in the country. Nestled inside the park are a number of amusement-style family attractions where visitors can do everything from walking through the Botanical Garden to riding a historic, antique carousel to experiencing childhood fairytales in Storyland. Now, the park is making visiting easier and more cost-effective with the Family Fun Pass – a bundled package for families to enjoy the park and its top attractions.
“There are so many things to do in City Park, it takes families more than one day to experience all the fun,” said City Park Chief Development Officer John Hopper. “We want people to have the opportunity to take their time at each attraction – and not feel rushed by the setting sun. For our out-of-town visitors, the Family Fun Pass allows folks to truly experience all the park has to offer in more than one day.”
The Family Fun Pass is good for seven days, starting with the first visit. With the pass, participating family members have entrance to the following attractions:
Storyland – Children can climb aboard Captain Hook’s pirate ship, journey with Pinocchio into the mouth of a whale or scamper up Jack & Jill’s Hill in City Park’s Storyland, a charming fairytale playground adjacent to City Park’s Carousel Gardens Amusement Park and the New Orleans Botanical Garden. Brimming with more than 25 larger-than-life storybook exhibits, this storybook fantasy play area is inhabited by enchanting, sculpted characters. (Family Fun Pass includes entrance.)
Carousel Gardens Amusement Park – Since 1906 little kids and kids at heart have enjoyed the “flying horses” of City Park’s antique carousel, one of only 100 antique wooden carousels in the country and the last one in Louisiana. Other rides to keep you twisting, turning, whirling and twirling within the live oaks of the Hines Carousel Gardens include the new Musik Express, Rockin’ Tug, Coney Tower, Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, Monkey Jump, Red Baron mini-plane, Scrambler, Tilt-A-Whirl, 40-foot fun slide, Umbrella Cars, Construction Zone, and the miniature train ride that tours the park. (Family Fun Pass includes entrance and unlimited rides.)
City Putt – One of the park’s newest family attractions, City Putt is a 36-hole, miniature golf course that emulates the spirit and soul of New Orleans and Louisiana. (Family Fun Pass includes entrance and play on one course.)
Morning Call – Take a break and grab a cup of café au lait and plate of beignets dusted with powdered sugar at Morning Call Coffee Stand. It is located near the Botanical Garden in the heart of City Park where visitors can also treat themselves to some gumbo, étouffée, or jambalaya. (Family Fun Pass includes Morning Call discount on a frozen café au lait.)
“With its large menu of family-friendly sports, recreational activities, amusements for children and more, the park is one of the best family attractions in the South,” said New Orleanian Andrea Legrand. “Before the Family Fun Pass, my out-of-town family was not able to experience all the activities available in the park because you can’t fit it all in one day. Since the Family Fun Pass option is available, my loved ones can really enjoy the many attractions in more than one day. They appreciate the savings and unlimited access.”
The Family Fun Pass is available for purchase now. The cost for adults is $30 and $25 for children. The pass is valid for a week after first use. (Rules and regulations for mandatory ride height requirements are posted at the front gate and rear ticket booth of the Amusement Park.) Call (504) 483-9402 or e-mail amusements@nocp.org for more information about the Family Fun Pass. Park and attraction times are subject to change. That park is awesome! There’s so much to do in just one place. It’s a super great way to spend an entire day outdoors. Wish they had a park like this closer to home.
