GeoCultura is pleased to announce the launch of our new travel company with a range of unique tours that focus on geology and culture and the links between the two.
Our tours are an exciting new take on the traditional ‘geology field trip’ and combine the awe-inspiring scenery of important geological sites with the best that local culture and hospitality have to offer. They will appeal to the educated and the curious – people who wish to learn more about the world in which we live, while in the company of leading experts in the field of geology and with talks from local guides and historians.
We have scheduled 15 tours for 2022 to locations in North America and Europe, with more to be added in the coming months. They are all-inclusive and range in length from 3 to 9 days. Our diverse trips in North America range from the terroir of vineyards in California, to the precarious balanced rocks at Chiricahua NP in Arizona, cliff dwellings spectacularly nestled in the red rocks of New Mexico and relics of dinosaurs in the brightly colored badlands of Alberta. They offer the chance to see the Burgess Shale in British Columbia and behind-the-scenes looks at world-class museums in Manhattan.
In Europe, we visit the sublime outcrops of the Scottish Highlands to hear stories of the origins of geology, learn about the stones that make up Stonehenge and Bath’s Royal Crescent in southern England, examine beautifully exposed faults in Greece’s Gulf of Corinth and enjoy relaxed lunches in the shadow of the majestic peaks of the Spanish Pyrenees.
Our tours explore the many links between the geology of an area and its history, such as the relationship between natural gas seeps in the beautiful Peloponnese mountains and ancient Greek oracles, the impact of earthquakes on prosperity in Lisbon and the effect of past climate change on the stability on Indigenous settlements in the American southwest. Our expert leaders will provide insight into the ties between history and the natural evolution of our world.
We will also take advantage of life’s more physical pleasures. These might be rafting down rivers cut into dramatic landscapes, trail riding through colorful canyons or appreciating how the buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright blend into the landscape. Wherever we travel, we will be savoring the varied local cuisines, whether that be coastal Californian fusion, the wines of the Okanagan Valley or the gastronomic delights of northern Spain.
GeoCultura aspires to be the first choice for anyone who wants to have a vacation like no other, and an experience that will stay with you forever.
