Not a skier? Not a problem!
Thanks to snow-packed backcountry covering over 18,000 acres, Idaho is known as one of the best places to ski or snowboard in North America. But if slopes and chairlifts aren’t your jam, you can find plenty of outdoor fun in the Gem State—from family-friendly to thrill-seeking and everything in between.
Fat biking – Riders of all levels can traverse the snowy terrain thanks to the agility (and thick-treaded tires) of fat bikes. Cruise the slopes at Kelly Canyon Ski Resort, where you’ll find 12 miles of groomed terrain or enjoy the ups and downs along Schweitzer’s 20-mile Nordic trail system. Winter-riding aficionados will want to experience the miles of specialized fat bike trails at Jug Mountain Ranch. Most resorts offer rentals.
Snowmobiling – Explore Idaho’s rugged wintry landscapes on a backcountry snowmobile trip. Idaho is home to several destinations for snowmobiling with varying levels of difficulty. Whether you gather the family for a guided tour or venture off the beaten path on your own, you’ll find an opportunity to hit the throttle in the Idaho mountains.
