New Gelato Partner for the Second Edition, that will start in Singapore
Record requests for participation from Australia for the first stage: 16 gelato artisans in Asia / Pacific in the race for the title of World’s Best Gelato
Rimini Fiera – The second edition of Gelato World Tour will start in less than days in Singapore making the city state the Gelato Capital of the World for 3 days in March 2015. The event will also be an occasion to celebrate fifty years of the Republic of Singapore! The Singapore event will also highlight the plans of Gelato World Tour for the next three years. The ‘Formula One of Gelato’ will start from South East Asian which together with North America is among the most attractive markets for the artisan gelato sector. Gelato Artisans from all around the world are honing their recipes to be able to compete for the title of “World’s Best Gelato”. The competition will pit new and seasoned gelato artisans against each other in the quest to win this worldwide competition.
The first Gelato World Tour international competition, which finished in September 2014, covered 5 continents, spreading the culture of artisan gelato. The numbers around the globe were impressive: 700,000 consumers visited the events, over 43,000 kg of gelato were produced, 360,000 cups and 576,000 mini cones were served, international media outlets attended and generated advertising value of more than € 7 million. After the first edition which took Europe, North America, Middle East and Oceania by storm, the next edition of the Gelato World Tour will turn Singapore into the first Asian capital of Gelato.
Gelato artisans from Asia Pacific will compete from March 20-22, 2015 at the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore which is known as the “Gateway to the East”. The winner of the previous edition of Gelato World Tour, John Crowl (Cow & the Moon Gelateria, Sydney and his flavor Almond Affogato), indicated that there has been a huge surge in interest among gelato artisans in Oceania to participate in the Gelato World Tour competition.
Another major highlight is an exclusive Gelato Charity Dinner, an unprecedented event in Asia which will feature gelato from the appetizer to dessert during the dinner. Chefs of international caliber will create a menu full of surprises: combinations of hot and cold, sweet and savory, unique fusions of Eastern and Western masterpieces, another first for Singapore. Proceeds from the dinner as well as the profits from samples of Gelato at Marina Bay Sands, will be donated to a local charity. A Singaporean marketing consultancy, Felicitas Global has been appointed as Project Manager for the Singapore event.
The “Formula One” of gelato will travel next to Tokyo’s Komazawa Park in September 2015. The tour will travel from Tokyo to the United States (two stops), South America, then return to Europe and continue until the finals in Italy, the undisputed home of Gelato. Rimini will once again host the Grand Finale of the Gelato World Tour in September 2017. The Organizing Committee is currently staging more stops in international cities whose governments are interested in supporting this cultural event. Those cities include Shanghai, New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Sao Paulo, London and Monaco of Bavaria.
The Gelato World Tour 2.0 supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development is directed by Carpigiani Gelato University, along with the school ‘s most famous Gelateria, and Sigep – Rimini Fiera, host of the most important exhibition in the field of traditional gelato and confectionery for the past thirty-six years. Another main partner continuing their support of this tour is IFI, the company won the last edition of the “Golden Compass ” and an international leader in the manufacturing of display cases for gelaterias. They will present, for the first time to an international audience, IFI ACADEMY, an institution dedicated to the training of professionals working in bars and pubs. Also included will be a free mini-course on how to open a gelateria and increase sales through service. The second edition of the Gelato World Tour also involves Prodea Group as Operating Partner in the initiative. Prodea will address both the operational management of the Gelato World Tour that the new resources obtained by the introduction of sponsors of international standing. This should be a winning combination that legitimizes the tour’s quality and Italian style.

Other technical supporters that will follow all the stages include Hiber, manufacturer of coolers and chillers who will provide a professional event that will teach courses on food preservation quality; Medac, which will provide 200,000 biodegradable cups to support the tour; Carpino, that will provide tissues, and Screams, company specializing for over 40 years in the design and implementation of a wide range of original and creative products in fiberglass design.
But the news does not end there.
The President of the Jury Selection Stage in Singapore is Pang Kok Keong, Chef and founder of Sugar Daddy Group which delighted patrons with its sweet creations from the kitchens of the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore and Hilton Hotel. Since 2002 Pang has been part of the Singapore National Culinary Team. In 2005 he captained the World Pastry Cup in Lyon and won the Asian Pastry Cup twice… in 2008 and 2010. The Jury Selection will include matching of key players in Asia and the unstoppable Luciana Polliotti, journalist, scholar of the history of gelato and gastronomy and curator of the historical Carpigiani Gelato Museum.
The jury will have the challenging task of selecting 16 flavors that will vie for the title of World’s Best Gelato Asia – Pacific, assessing the recipes from gelato makers operating in Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Russia and India .
