Urca: The Tranquil Refuge in Rio de Janeiro
The Urca neighborhood, one of the oldest in Rio, is where the main house of the film is located, a setting that blends charm and serenity. With tree-lined streets, historic houses, and a stunning view of Sugarloaf Mountain, Urca evokes a sense of warmth that is central to the film’s narrative. Take a stroll along the Mureta da Urca, enjoy a pastel with a cold beer, and watch the sunset in one of the calmest places in the city.
And since you’re in the neighborhood, visit Praia da Urca, a true oasis in the heart of the city. Its calm waters and fine sand make it the perfect spot for families with children. Praia Vermelha is also a stunning stop. With its fine red sand, calm waters, and panoramic view of Sugarloaf Mountain, it’s the place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty.
Your visit to Urca isn’t complete without a ride on the iconic Sugarloaf cable cars. This is one of Rio’s most famous attractions and offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Marvelous City. No matter the time of day, the cable car ride is a magical experience, and the view from the top will stay with you forever.
Leblon and Ipanema Beaches: Poetry and Inspiration by the Seaside
The beaches of Leblon and Ipanema also take center stage in the film. The vibrant beachfront invites you to a leisurely stroll, with a stop for coconut water or to watch surfers in action. The sunset at Posto 12 in Leblon is a must-see, while Pedra do Arpoador in Ipanema offers one of the most famous views of Rio, with the Dois Irmãos Hill framing the horizon.
Botanical Garden: A Haven of Peace and Natural Beauty
The Jardim Botânico neighborhood is where Rubens Paiva’s family dreamed of building a house. It’s also where you’ll find the iconic Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden! The palm-lined alleys immediately impress upon entering. The park is an oasis of tranquility and hosts dozens of plant species and birds singing throughout the day. Take your time for a relaxing walk, breathe in the fresh air, connect with nature, and unwind in the shade of the trees.
Tip: Have more time? Take a walk to Parque Lage, right next to the Botanical Garden. Here, you’ll find the iconic 19th-century mansion with a large pool in the courtyard and a view of Christ the Redeemer. You can also explore the park’s trails or rest in the picnic areas. It’s a wonderful outing!
Downtown Rio: A Touch of History and Tradition
In the heart of downtown Rio de Janeiro, Confeitaria Manon is one of the most charming locations in the film. Founded in 1942, it enchants with its art deco decor and delicious treats. While in the area, visit the stunning Museum of Tomorrow, a true work of art in the port area, and pass by the iconic Selarón Steps.
Carioca Lifestyle
You can’t talk about Rio without mentioning the carioca lifestyle. Known worldwide for its splendid beaches, parks, monuments, rich culture, and vibrant urban life, the Marvelous City offers unique experiences. Visiting Rio guarantees discovering paradisiacal beaches and, at the end of the day, enjoying one of the world’s most beautiful sunsets. Christ the Redeemer – one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World – is also a must-see.
And nature? It’s everywhere in the city, with spaces like Tijuca Forest – the largest urban forest in the world. Experience outdoor activities in contact with nature, such as hiking, cycling, beach volleyball, diving, and of course, the famous paragliding or hang gliding over Pedra da Gávea.
Oh, and samba can’t be left out of the itinerary! There are plenty of samba circles all over the city, including in the lively neighborhoods of Lapa and Santa Teresa. To complete the experience, check out the backstage preparations for the iconic Rio Carnival parades.

I’m Still Here
I’m Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui) is an adaptation of the eponymous book by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. The film, directed by Walter Salles, tells the remarkable transformation of his mother, Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), a housewife in the 1970s and mother of five, into one of Brazil’s most important human rights activists. Her journey begins after the brutal murder of her husband, former Congressman Rubens Paiva (played by Selton Mello), during the military dictatorship, driving her to fight for justice and memory, challenging the shadows of the oppressive regime.
The film has been nominated for three Oscars in 2025: Best Picture, Best Actress (Fernanda Torres), and Best International Feature Film. The ceremony will take place on March 2, in Los Angeles (USA).
