The town of Lucla is where most people fly to in order to start their hike or trek. The elevation here is about 9,100 feet and it is better to fly here, then to Namche Bazaar which is situated at 11,700 feet. I say this because it is easier to acclimate yourself to lower elevation. Katmandu, for all its poverty and dilapidated buildings, is a relatively safe city. In all my walks and travels through the neighborhoods I never once felt unsafe. Nepal – Kathmandu Attractions
Swayambhunath or Monkey Temple is well worth seeing. This temple is located a short distance from Katmandu. The reason this temple is called the Monkey temple is that there are many many wild monkeys crawling around on the steps and buildings. Bargaining was one of the highlights for me in Katmandu. Every where you walk in this crowded city you are surrounded by swarms of people trying to sell you something. Nepal – Chitwan National Park
Chitwan is a National Park in the southern of Nepal - that contains many wild animals including rhino's and the hard to see Tigers. Nepal – Pokhara
We did not actually visit this beautiful area which is west of Katmandu. The reason I include it here is that we were told but a number of people that it is a stunningly beautiful place to visit. Pokhara is actually at an elevation lower then Katmandu and is therefore more tropical. The valley that it sits in is home to forests and many lakes.
