Tom Brady sold his Rolls-Royce Ghost at auction in August 2024. Interestingly, though, the auction house did not release the final price of the sale and it is not public information.
The press suggested that bidding had reached around $400,000 for the signed vehicle midway through proceedings. However, officials did not release the sale price figures in a statement, as they normally would.
If the vehicle sold for a $400,000 price tag, it means that the sale was less than half of what the former sports star paid for the vehicle. When the car was released in 2017, the base price was considerably higher than $700,000, meaning he may have taken a loss.
Bidders for the vehicle had to send in their bids in sealed envelopes in advance of the sale. As such, the setup wasn’t the normal affair where an auctioneer goes back and forth between various buyers, scaling the bids as they go along. As such, bidders may have paid more than the reported $400,000 if they had competed with each other.
Even so, the Ghost was an exciting buy for any Brady and Rolls-Royce fan. The vehicle, according to Sotheby’s Motorsports auction house, only had 127 miles on the clock and spent most of its time sitting in a garage untouched along with the rest of the sports star’s extensive collection.
“Brady’s car is similar to the types of vehicles we work with,” says exotic car rental brand MPH Club. “However, the exclusivity comes from the fact that he owned it and also took the time to sign it. Sports fans will love that idea and will always know that the vehicle belonged to their hero.”
It should come as no surprise to car aficionados that the Rolls-Royce Ghost was a vehicle at the top of Brady’s list. The car offers a blend of luxury and power with a twin-turbocharged V-12 engine under the hood, generating over 563 bhp. As a vehicle designed for comfort, the Ghost is almost as fast as most supercars from the 2000s, offering a 0 to 60 mph time of just 4.8 seconds, putting it on a par with a BMW M4.
The all-wheel-drive system is another special element of the vehicle. It allows the automatic gearbox to provide seamless transition changes while delivering specific amounts of power to the wheels to improve comfort further while in transit.
The Planar Suspension System is another addition. This solution uses advanced technology to adapt to the road ahead, allowing the vehicle to provide passengers with a more precise ride.
“The Ghost is a masterpiece of modern technology,” says MPH Club, “which is why it remains one of the most desirable luxury saloons, besides the Phantom. These vehicles can drive at speed without bumpiness, even on uneven surfaces.”
According to reports, Brady likely sold his Rolls-Royce Ghost to make way for a new vehicle in his collection. As a car lover, he likes to collect rare and expensive vehicles from across the globe and keep them at various homes.
Brady’s Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is among the most impressive vehicles in his collection. The car has a top speed of more than 267 mph and is arguably the fastest production vehicle ever made (aside from some minor exceptions). The car comes with a massive 1,200+ bhp engine and an air brake at the rear to help the car slow down faster coming off high speeds.
Brady is also the proud owner of an Aston Martin TB12 Vanquish Volante. The convertible features Brady’s initials on the headrests and offers over 595 bhp for a 0 to 60 speed in just over 3 seconds. It isn’t the fastest car in his collection, but the vehicle from the British brand is arguably one of the most stylish.
Lastly, Brady also keeps the classic 2009 Audi R8 in his collection. The 5.2-liter V10-engine vehicle produces over 428 BHP and doesn’t look like it has aged a day in the last fifteen years. It cost Brady over $165,000 when he bought it, making it a significant purchase for him at the time.
Brady’s high-ticket sale of his Rolls-Royce Ghost isn’t the first time a celebrity has sold their trademark vehicle for a human price. Other famous people have also done the same.
The king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, sold his 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman posthumously in 2020, fetching a massive $293,888 at auction. Justin Bieber did something similar with his 2011 Ferrari 458 Italian which he had customized by West Coast Customs of Burbank California. He sold that vehicle for $434,500 at an auction in Scottsdale, AZ.
Celebrities have also sold their entire car collections. For example, Fast and Furious star Paul Walker saw an auction house selling off his collection of vehicles after his untimely death in 2019. The most popular vehicle was the actor’s 1995 BMW M3 Lightweight with only 4,600 miles on the clock. It sold for $385,000 after somebody placed an extremely high winning bid.
Finally, Michael Jordan has also sold vehicles through auctions. He flogged his 1996 Mercede-Benz S600 Lorinser through Beverly Hills Car Club for more than $202,200.
“People don’t have to be wealthy or sports superstars to drive these vehicles, though,” MPH Club explains. “It is now possible to simply take them out for a day and then bring them back in the evening. These systems get around the high costs of purchasing one of these vehicles, and eliminate the challenges of running and maintaining it.”
Given the high publicity surrounding Brady and other famous people selling their vehicles, interest in driving these luxury vehicles is accelerating. Many individuals want to know what they need to do to get their hands on them and experience the same thrill as sports stars and business leaders.
“The demand for such vehicles is certainly ticking up over time,” MPH Club says. “The choice available fifteen years ago was certainly far lower than today.”
