Is there anything better than heading out to travel and see the most amazing sights throughout the world? Probably very little. We are firm believers that road trips can be the best vacations possible as they allow for so much freedom. Beach resorts can offer superb weather and the opportunity to relax for a couple of weeks, but often, unless you choose to go on excursions, they can lack culture, variety and excitement. Continue reading for considerations on how to make the perfect road trip vacation.
Fellow travellers
Think about with whom you’ll be vacationing. Will it be your partner? Perhaps, you’ll be travelling with friends or maybe even your family. Whomever you decide to embark on this adventure with, make sure that you all share the same vision. For example, if one of your party is keen just to sample the local alcoholic beverages, where the rest would like to see the ancient architecture, you may find yourself facing a week or two filled with arguments.
Vehicle
Consider how you will travel around. Will you choose your usual car or a hire car perhaps? If you’re planning to cover hundreds, possibly thousands, of miles, it may be worth putting those on someone else’s car rather than your own. Car rental does not have to cost a fortune and you can choose from a wide variety of vehicles depending on your needs.
If you have a camper van at home, this could be the perfect chance to really let your hair down and roam around. If you’re thinking ahead and enjoy a project, why not consider a camper van conversion? This could be your home away from home. All of your own comforts, but knowing that you did all the hard graft to make your dream a reality.
Budget
Your budget will dictate all aspects of your vacation. How much money you have to spend will determine your destination (see the section below) in particular in terms of the amount of gas you will need to reach there and also the activities you can partake in along the way. Planning your route and main activities in advance will really help you to know how much money you are likely to spend.
If you are taking a car, you will need to consider your accommodation. For those with camper vans, this will save you a significant amount; though your gas will probably set you back more. Meals need to be thought about as well. Catering for yourself will save you a large amount compared with eating in cafes and restaurants. However, it is unlikely that you will want to cook or prepare your own meals three times a day for the duration of your vacation.
Location
Do your research about where you might like to travel. Discuss this with your fellow road trippers. Once you have decided on your end point, think about the route you will take and any detours. Look into interesting historical sites, museums and points of interest along the way. Will you remain in this country or perhaps travel to Europe? If so, consider the language barrier and ensure you know which currency to use depending on which countries use the Euro.
