I’ve always had a soft spot for Halloween. It’s the one time of year when it’s not only OK but actively encouraged to embrace being a little ghoulishly childlike. It also encourages people to think about exploring some of the world’s scariest places, digging a little deeper into the folklore that exists behind them and the mythical creatures that lurked (and perhaps still lurk) there.
Whether you choose to explore the dark recesses of the Paris Catacombs, where you can gawk at some six million skeletons, go in search of the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, or celebrate in more of a family-friendly fashion, by immersing yourself in the bright lights of Disneyland Tokyo, there’s ample opportunity to get in touch with your inner child.
So, if you’re planning on a short getaway this Halloween, why not consider some of these horrific hotspots, considered to be among the nine scariest places on earth?
