When you have somewhere important to be or you are looking to get to your destination as fast as possible there is simply nothing better than the airplane. This is especially true for those individuals that need to cover hundreds to thousands of miles at a time. However, there is usually one problem that comes along with flying and that problem is jet lag. Jet lag is just a general sense of exhaustion that you are going to experience after flying. Most people usually associate jet leg with time change or long flights. Well, you might be surprised to learn that you can even get jet-lagged on short flights.
Psyche Yourself Out
Some people will find themselves traveling through eight different times zone in just a matter of days. This is the type of itinerary that could cause an extreme amount of jet lag. One of the best ways to battle this is by trying to psychology tell yourself that jet lag isn’t a big deal. Chances are if you spend most of your time worrying about jet lag and complaining about it, there is a good chance that it will always bother you. The truth of the matter is you probably would get the same amount of sleep on the road as would if you were at home in your own bed.
Sleeping On The Plane
Airplanes oftentimes aren’t the most accommodating if you aren’t traveling in the right conditions. You never know who you are going to be placed next to, but you can have a say over where you are placed within the plane. Your placement in the plane could make or break the amount of sleep that you get during your flight. It is usually best to opt for a window seat so that you can lean against it and sleep. In addition to this, with a window seat, you never have to worry about getting bumped by the drink cart or getting woken up by passengers wanting to use the restroom.
Consider The Purpose Of Your Trip
If you are traveling through several different time zones for an important event, you might want to consider trying to arrive a day or two ahead of time if at all possible. This will give your mind and body adequate time to adapt to the local time.
Adjust Your Sleep Ahead Of Time
Just because you are flying through several different time zones in a few days it doesn’t mean that you can’t adjust your sleeping patterns ahead of time. Once you know where you are going to be going and what their respective time zones are, you can start adjusting your sleeping patterns to match. If you have business meetings in each of these time zones it might make things a bit more difficult, but if you are just flying to get to the end destination then you can just adjust your sleeping patterns to match that of your last destination.
