The Christmas season is upon us and once again the streets are lit up and decorated beautifully to brighten up the winter season. Many cities celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with an official tree lightning. You don’t have to live in one of the apartments in New York to know that the tree lightning of the Christmas tree in front of the Rockefeller Center is one of the most famous lightning ceremonies. Every year the ceremony gets broadcasted on US television with performances of music bands and dance groups.
New York City is one of the greatest places to experience Christmas. It is not for nothing that so many Christmas movies play in the Big Apple. And every year watching some of these movies not only help to get into the Christmas spirit but also they make us want to rent one of the New York apartments right away. Here a few movie recommendations:
Miracle on 34th Street
There are actually two versions of this movie. In both a man dressed as Santa Clause claims to be the real Santa. In the more recent movie version this Santa Clause befriends a little girl who lost her belief in Santa already and helps her discovering that all things can come true if you really believe in them.
Elf
To me, this is one of the most hilarious Christmas movies made and I don’t get tired of it. When a baby in an orphanage crawls into Santa’s bag, one of Santa’s helpers decides to raise this child. As Buddy grows up it becomes obvious that he is different from the other elves. His adoptive father tells him the truth and sends him off to NYC to meet his biological father. Growing up on the North Pole among Christmas elves you can imagine that Buddy had quite the trouble to adjust to life in the Big Apple. An important piece of advice he got before leaving: Don’t eat the yellow snow!
Big
When a little boy gets bullied for being too small at a fair he wishes to be bigger only to wake up the next morning in the body of an adult. He starts working for a toy company where his duty is to test the new toys. With his playful approach to his job he quickly gains his boss’ sympathy. Here they make music together in one of the most famous scenes of the movie.
