I am German travel extreme reporter Michael Wigge, and I specialize in extreme travel challenges. I am now ready for my new 50 states challenge.
Here are my prior projects:
- How to Travel the World for Free – 2010
- How to Barter for Paradise – 2011 (trading an apple in to a house in Hawaii)
- How to Travel 2000 Miles on a Razor Scooter in 80 Days – 2013
- Europe Blindfolded – 2014
My fifth challenge is a 50 states challenge called Fifty States of Wigge and is about to start today. This 50 states challenge will mean little sleep and lots of adventure. I will travel 48 of the 50 states by van, 14,000 miles.
In each state I have a minimum of time to face an additional challenge related to each state.
I will have to lose at least two pounds crossing Colorado, America’s least obese state. I will have to try to touch Donald Trump during the Trump Rally in California. I will have to determine what actually a swing state is in Florida, learn the trumpet in New Orleans, find diamonds in the diamond crater in Arkansas, and sprint down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon within 60 minutes. Why all the trouble?
It is the 2016 election year in America, and as a German who lives in America, I raise the question: How does America actually tick? I live in a country with vast diversity, with incredible natural beauty, and with incredible power. And there is now one presidential candidate who comes across pretty edgy with a multi-billion business in his back and a hairstyle, which would make Elvis uniquely jealous.
And there’s another presidential candidate who seems to be a title collector, the former first lady, the former presidential candidate and the former secretary of state. What’s going on with America and how does this country really tick? I want to find out from an outside perspective.
I want to figure out how America and the Americans tick through an extreme investigation, throwing myself as deep into America as possible and take a closer look in details in all fifty states. Follow me daily during this 50 states challenge – Fifty States of Wigge
All 50 Blogs will be here, starting from today
I have already reached state number one, Maine. Do you know it’s the closest state to Africa, closer than Florida? Anyway, check out the video of day 1
Yours, Wigge

Okay, Michael. We’re on-board to follow your USA traveling. Good luck and try not to speed along your route from Interstate 95 to our Western States. The highway state police, who wear “Smokey” hats are everywhere with their radar guns itching to issue a speeding ticket. Did you try Maine’s famous lobster roll?
