This small country is nestled among some of Europe’s most picturesque alps – between Switzerland and Austria. A visit to the country starts with time in Vaduz, the capital city. This small city can easily be explored in a few hours. Rising high above Vaduz is the the road to the ski and summer town of Malbun. The road is narrow and steep at times – passing above gorgeous scenery, the valley far below and the jagged snow capped mountains rising far above on the opposite side of the valley.
Before reaching Malbun the small town of Triesenberg is worth a visit. It is picturesque, there are several small hotels here.
While Liechtenstein is clearly a country setup for the outdoor lover – it does have a few museums worth visiting. Check out the National Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and the Postage Museum – all located in Vaduz. Vaduz has a number of little shops, restaurants and hotels. For a luxurious intimate escape look no further than the Relaix & Chateaux property, the Park Hotel Sonnehof. This gem of a stay is located in the foothills above Vaduz – behind a well-to-do neighborhood. Visit: www.sonnenhof.li for more information.
