One of Australia’s cleaner cities, Brisbane is easy to navigate and user friendly for visitors. The airport is located about a 25 minute train ride away with stations at both the international and domestic terminals (which are in separate locations from each other). Central Station is downtown within easy walking distance of numerous restaurants and shopping districts.
The city is built along the Brisbane River. A great starting point is the South Bank Parklands (about a 15 to 20 minute walk from downtown) – a section along the river that was developed for Brisbane’s World Expo in 1988. Today a number of attractions are here or in the vicinity including the Wheel of Brisbane (great views from the gondolas high above the city), a rain-forest walk and one of our favorites stops here, the public swimming pools built right above the river.
The nearby Southbank Arts Precint is also worth visiting for art lovers.
Other highlights include the Queen Wharf Project (opened in 2022) a resort and entertainment complex with a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Brisbane River and the Botanical Gardens right next to the downtown area.
