Old town Bratislava is one of Europe’s smallest in a capital city. As a result it is fairly easy to explore the city, spending time to explore it’s cobblestone streets and visiting small cafe’s and restaurants; this part of town is a great place to just relax especially outdoors during warm summer days. The Danube flows by in its multi-country journey through this part of Europe. Several “botels” (floating boat hotels”) are anchored along its banks – a short walk from the old town.
Also an imposing presence, towering above the Danube is the UFO tower – which has a platform on top accessible via an elevator with great views in all directions on a clear day. Also a restaurant and bar is located just below the viewing platform and makes a nice place to enjoy a variety of alcoholic drinks.
When one needs a break from the small urban environment of this city, consider a short ride (30-40 minutes) to the small town of Modra in the country. A number of wineries are located in this region – the Smaller Carpathian Wine Route. In addition a number of hiking trails and country roads are available for those interesting in doing some hiking or trekking.
