Like everything in and around downtown Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts is conveniently located within about a 20 minute drive of Logan International Airport. Founded in 1870, this world-class museum has been in its current location since 1909. Housing over 450,000 piece of art, this is one of the largest and finest museums in the country. A must visit when in Boston.
Visitors can use one of the automated machines to purchase tickets – allow at least several hours. The permanent collections are organized by region including Art of the Americas, a fine European collection, art of Asia, Africa and various Egyptian antiquities – including an excellent display of ancient coins and ancient jewelry. Highlights of the museum include the iconic painting of Paul Revere by John Singleton Copley and various works by European masters including Rembrandt, Goya, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh among other well-known artists.
Also home to the tiny Three Graces bronze piece named after a sculpture created in the year 1624 by the German artist, Georg Petel who modeled his gilded bronze piece after the painting of the same name by Peter Paul Rubens. This image has appeared on the labels of all Napa Valley based, Clos du Val wines since their inaugural vintage of 1972.
