After an hour flight from Miami to Nassau, catch a 30-minute puddle jumper on Flamingo Air or Titan Air to the airstrip at beautiful Staniel Cay. Or simply fly to Staniel Cay nonstop from Fort Lauderdale.
Once you arrive, you will be picked up in a golf cart by one of the friendly staff at EMBRACE Resort for the several minute ride to the Flying Pig Cafe. This is the latest restaurant to open on tiny Staniel Cay (one of 365 islands in the Exumas in the Bahamas). The focus is on a casual but delicious meal inspired by island ingredients (either breakfast, lunch or dinner). And meals are served both indoors or outdoors, on one of their several wooden decks.
All their dressings and sauces are made fresh daily. Our favorite dish is their shrimp and grits. We always enjoy a Greek salad and were pleasantly surprised when we saw it noted on their menu. We ordered several of these during our stay at Embrace Resort.
And the Flying Pig Cafe is the island’s only coffee shop, locally known for their guava duff latte. The Flying Pig Cafe also has a fully stocked bar including their own signature cocktail called Gettin’ Piggy Wit’ It, a play on Will Smith’s Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It.
After a meal, one might seriously be tempted to simply stay here to enjoy this tiny island’s own version of paradise. And it really is. Only 125 people (give or take a few) live full time on the island. It is surrounded by gorgeous aquamarine waters, tiny tucked away beaches which almost certainly will be empty and friendly locals. And Staniel Cay is the perfect place to stay to experience swimming with pigs (the Bahamas original location for this activity).

This place was such a joke, I was looking for the hidden cameras.
The conch chowder had no conch, just some kind of fish. The truffle fries tasted like they were frozen for over a year, and they weren’t fully cooked. The waitress said her favorite thing was the fish sandwich (but she didn’t know what kind of fish it was). I don’t think this place is going to make it.
