Beijing, China’s Capital City is home to a number of major tourist highlights. Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square is at the center of this town. It anchors the Forbidden City next door – this is a maze of temples and museums dating back to 1406. A must visit is the Great Wall – Badaling is the closest part of the wall to Beijing and is visited by the tourist masses. China raised the bar to another level with its production of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Improvements to the city and infrastructure was built specifically for the Olympics. The awe inspiring Birdsnest Stadium and huge plaza nearby is worth visiting. Restorative work at the huge Summer Palace was conducted in the years leading up to the Olympics – this palace is a combination of gardens and temples situated next to a large lake (which coincidentally freezes over in the winter).
