Joseph/Rosie – thanks for much for dropping by our travel site. We look forward to meeting you both soon 🙂
~ DaveThats right – it can actually get quite cold in the north – especially in the mountains near Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. We’ve been going every December and January – temperatures are generally warm during the day but not too hot like in other times of the year.
Sorry to hear Ravi Shankar passed away yesterday in Encinitas California at age of 92 – amazing music and amazing life.
Hi there – western Europe is a region setup for backpackers – plenty of hostels, euro rail passes, easy to meet other travelers. I think you would be fine traveling alone – and who knows, you probably will meet someone on your trip and end up traveling a bit with them. Trust your gut – if some place or someone doesn’t feel safe, get out of that situation as quickly as possible. There’s always those trying to scam people they feel don’t have experience with traveling.

Campgrounds are good – also RVing it can save time and maybe some money depending on how cheap a deal you find. Sounds like you will be mostly in the north island? I’ve spent some time on both islands, but more on the south island. I love the outdoor activities – Milford Sound, Queenstown, etc – I have a short guide I wrote here:

Here is an article I wrote about Lake Ohrid – the gem of Macedonia:

Thanks David – its been a while since we met ! I see the world has not slowed you down or you haven’t slowed down – nice to see you are still traveling the globe. I’m off to China again later this year – this time to NE China – Shenyang – have you been? Its a province that borders North Korea – and will be quite cold there soon b/c its so far north.
Cornelia- thanks for the tips and tricks on how to take better photos. I find the lens is one of the most important pieces to the equation – course they add so much weight! Although as my friend says, “the most important camera is the one you have with you – regardless of what it is”.
Thanks for the info on Capetown – my friend from Malaysia is there right now. I was in J’burg earlier this year but was really bummed we ran out of time to visit Capetown. I hear you have some nice wine country in the region 🙂
