MichielThis is a little open question to all travelers.
How do you decide where you go next.
Is it advertising
A friend told you
New destination
Travel newsAnd how do you decide NOT to go somewhere
Bad advertising
News, on the destination
Bad experience from someone you know.Just to get a feel what makes you tick..!!
Let me know!
Regards,
Micky, VHG
Davemay be in the minority, but I try not to let the press influence me too much in my decisions where to travel. I do heavy research on the net – some of my destinations have been influenced by “online” friends who live in certain countries. In the past its been great to have pre-arranged meetings with people who are willing to show me parts of their country. Exotic is often a pre-requisite for the countries I visit.
As far as countries I avoid – its mostly countries that are in the midst of wars or are involved in violent struggles which could affect tourists. I consider myself adventurous, just not to the extent of the trips that Robert Pelton Young takes!

MichielDear Dave,
Sorry about the late reply to your comment. I have a question for you. Would you travel to Kenya and or Bali at the moment?
Most Western Govenments still have Travel Advisories against going there?

DaveHello Michiel. Greetings from Malaysia!
I would not think twice about traveling to either of these countries. I almost ended up in Bali last week and I was in Kenya for 6 weeks several years ago.
I see that Turkey is now on the US travel advisory list. I will be visiting Istanbul and Antalaya Turkey next month – I have friends who live in both cities.
The absolute WORST thing we can do is let fear run our lives. This however, can be a fine line.
Best regards,
~ Dave
