mel716I will be flying with my two boys in April from Colorado to Georgia (about a 3 hour flight) and back. My boys are 3 (well, will be March 30th) and 4 1/2 months (will be 6 months then). My husband will not be coming, so I am looking for as much advise as I can get for traveling by myself with my sons..
My biggest concern is getting through security and to the gate (and vice versa) with them. I am wondering if a double stroller is a good idea, or if it will be too big. Will it be okay to take through security? Would it be a hassle to take on the subway/shuttle (from one terminal to another)? I would hate to make my 3 year old walk the whole way as he might tire out easily if I just take a single stroller. I have also thought about putting my 3 year old in a single stroller and wearing my littlest one in baby carrier (I have a Baby Bjorn). However, I’m afraid I will get worn out carrying my already 17 pound baby.. I would love some tips/advise!
Also, if anyone can give me tips on how to survive the airport and the flight itself with the boys, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!
Who has some experience traveling with children through airports and security? Perhaps you could reply here.
We list a few traveling with children sites here:

SinclairYou may want to contact the airport or the airline and ask them if they can provide transportation from the counter to your plane. I know they provide transportation for the elderly on golf carts, so they may provide a ride for you and your two kids. I really didn’t think about the actual walking. I was thinking more about keeping them occupied during the flight. Be sure to bring plenty of snacks, portable game systems, ****, dvd player, books, or whatever will keep them busy for three hours.
In my research, I found this pretty cool item which can be an alternative to a stroller:

zipdogOne thing I did was have them travel in their jammies. It puts them in the frame of mind that it’s time to sleep. Also, pack lighter than you think you need to.

If the kids start to get on your nerves, that’ll shut em up for hoursssss. 😛

Ya 6 month old is not likely to settle down with a video game, let a lone benefit from it.
snacks are a big distraction, as are new (to them) toys and books. Get your 3 year old to help you make up a small ‘travel kit’ where he/she can choose treats and toys to put in it but only for use on the trip. It will get them excited and thinking about how to amuse themselves.
I dont have experience taking a double stroller on a trip, but call your airline. They probably can help. Also ask for their recommendations and perhaps they can provide you with some additional assistance when boarding? It cant hurt to ask!
I like the idea of having them in their jammies for the trip… it might work.
Good luck!
peterbtlrWell,I agree with the those who mentioned double stroller issues. Way too big and cumbersome in airports.
