AhankurWe, the Berbers (or Imazighen pl. for “Amazigh”) – the indigenous inhabitants of North Africa – are sick and tired of being identified as “Arabs” and geographically being included with the Middle East in many cases. We’re Africans. The North African countries are being ruled by Arab nationalistic orientated regimes, who are using aggressive Arabization methods in order to try to eradicate the indigenous Berber culture. This does not mean that the population can be identified as being Arab, though.

MattHey, I am interested in the Berber culture. I was thinking about taking a trip to Morocco later in the year. To Taarat, I heard they are building a school there to teach the Berber children Tamazight, and not the dominant Arabic. I would like to go there and help build the school, would the Arabs harrass us do you think? Please email me back. Thank you.
