Tom SykesWe are currently working on a book of hitch-hiking anecdotes, views and observations written by contributors from all walks of life. This collection aims to document the varied experiences of hitch-hikers and those giving lifts in order that an exemplary record can be established for general publication.
We have already received contributions from a diverse group of individuals including Arnold Wesker, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Steven Pinker, Alistair Campbell, Sir Max Hastings, Deedar Zaman, Jeremy Vine, George Monbiot, Annie Nightingale, Nigel West, Will Durst and Lembit Opik MP, intent from Sir Alan Parker, Doug Stanhope, Irv Thomas (arguably the world’s oldest hitch-hiker), Theodore Dalrymple, Tony Hawks, Peter Tatchell, Loudon Wainwright, David Nobbs, Michael Rosen, Jeffrey Lewis and Mike Leigh.
With all this in mind, we write to ask if you would consider freely contributing an anecdote or view, however long or short, by mid-July for publication in due course. Should you choose to contribute, we will be in touch with you again to request your permission to use your piece. We will give every contributor a free copy of the book on publication.

BenHello there
I’ve got dozens, if not hundreds of hitchhiking tales for you. From July 2002 to August 2003 I hitched my way from Hawaii to India and back, via the US mainland and Europe. I’m also a regular contributer to http://www.digihitch.com, ‘the digital hitch-hiking portal’. If you like I can post your query there and I’m sure you will get a healthy response. I look forward to talking with you soon.

Tom SykesDear Ben
Sorry about the delay, we’ve got so many of these messages put around the web that we were more relying on people emailing us with stories. We’ve got the first book completed and ready for publication (it had been by the time you last posted) but we’re collecting now for a sequel. Please send as much as you like to hitchtales@hotmail.com. By the way the book is called ‘No Such Thing As A Free Ride?’ and is out in the UK on May 12th. Should be out in USA and elsewhere soon after.
