Moon Rio de Janeiro by Michael Sommers is hot…and will only get hotter from an International perspective as the world view narrows down on this “Cidade Maravillhosa” (Marvelous City) as the 2016 Olympics draw closer. This is Moon Handbook’s first edition (released November 2009). Now is really the time to head down to Rio before prices go up the closer to the Olympics – from caipirinha’s to churrascaria’s to Carnival this book has you covered. While giant to the southwest, Sao Paulo is so spread out and doesn’t seem to have a lot of natural surrounding beauty, Rio is a different story. It boasts gorgeous beaches, beautiful people, the ocean and the surrounding famous mountains as well as forestland.
Throw in the culture and the music and you have a fascinating city. The first 35 pages of this book are a must read; these contain excellent maps and lists the major highlights of the city. This book is detailed well written and provides information for all types of travelers from budget to luxury.
