Choosing a wedding venue is never an easy task! We looked at venues in our local area of Fort Lauderdale, Miami, all the way to the Caribbean islands, and many beach resorts in Costa Rica prior to choosing The Springs Resort & Spa at Arenal, Costa Rica. Today I’ll share with you what led to this decision and why we feel like this is one of the most unique weddings ever crafted.
About The Springs Resort in Costa Rica
The Springs Resort and Spa is like no other property we’ve been to! It offers a gorgeous, lush setting in the beautiful rain forests of Costa Rica, all with the focal point being the view of the Arenal Volcano, which is active but has been dormant dating to 2010.
The property is one we’ve been to numerous times. Each trip had us craving more and wanting to enjoy the experience with family and friends. However, coordinating a trip with everyone having different schedules is a lot more difficult than we anticipated, and sadly we never made that happen.
This led us to the decision to choose this venue, which had only one downside – the property has a hard cap of 60 on visitors. That said, we knew a lot of people wouldn’t be able to make it to Central America, let alone still have an almost three hour drive to get to the venue. It’s not an easy journey! Our second choice was the W Costa Rica in Reserva Conchal, but again, this was a little too Americanized and cliche for our taste, but this hotel is one of our favorites, so we’ll be staying there after our wedding and unwinding for a few more days.
Things to Do at the Springs Costa Rica
Our guests will be treated to a trip they will neve soon forget! Most people have never been near a volcano, and many haven’t stepped foot in our favorite place of Costa Rica! Their eyes will be open wide when they see all there is to do once they arrive at the property, including:
– Soaking in the 28 thermal pools on property with a drink in hand
– Whitewater rafting in the adjacent river
– Visiting the Wildlife Sanctuary on premises
– Having Instagram-worth scenery every step of the way
– Enjoy the various restaurants and bars on premises
– Relax over drinks at the many scenic viewpoints
-Wind down in the luxury accommodations with a scenic view
All of these are in the direct view of the famous Arenal Volcano!
Where is the Springs Resort Located?
Located near the Arenal volcano, The Springs Resort & Spa Costa Rica is located in the town of La Fortuna, which is currently the top destination for tourism in Costa Rica. While many people choose beach weddings in Costa Rica, we felt that was very cliche, and wanted an entirely different experience.
The town of La Fortuna is very unique and offers an authentic Costa Rican experience with first world hospitality. Located in the central region of Costa Rica in the province of Alajuela, it’s a very unique zone in terms of people, climate, and surroundings, when compared to the popular Pacific Coast of Guanacaste and the Caribbean Coast of Limon.
You can fly into either airport and drive to The Springs. We chose to fly into Liberia International Airport vs. San Jose’s Juan Santamaria airport because the airport has less flights and potential for delays. They are both about equidistant in terms of arriving in La Fortuna, and both drives offer scenic views of the man made Lake Arenal and many authentic Costa Rican “sodas,” among other things.
Summary
In summary, we went all out for this wedding and are very happy with our choice! We are highly anticipating our wedding day and can’t wait to share this little piece of heaven with friends and family. Costa Rica is our favorite place to travel, and The Springs, in particular, is our go-to venue to completely unwind!
