As always Los Angeles is a study in contrasts and that is the beauty of this incredible city. I’m just as comfortable at an exclusive party at a secret location on one of the blvd’s in Hollywood or Beverly Hills as I am slurping up Menudo or enjoying Horchatas at a small taco stand in the heart of South Central or Watts. I’m always in town every year for the annual LA Times Travel Show. Like many things that are “big” in LA, this the largest consumer travel show in the United States.
Get there early tho, parking fills up fast, especially this weekend when the powers that be, had the bright idea of holding the boat and marine show on the same weekend as the travel show. Get there later in the day and your going to be parking at the South Hall lot rather then the West Hall with a brisk walk ahead of you.
Its always a treat to be able to visit with so many people from around the world working in the tourism industry under one roof. The Thailand travel booth was giving away free prizes to the first person to raise their hand with the correct answer to their questions. About 20 people were gathered around in anticipation of winning some “thai” swag.
I just happened to arrive for the first question. Child’s play, really. I felt sorry for the others milling about. I raised my hand before the lady made it to the second word of the question. I already knew what she was going to ask – the answer was Bangkok. Bingo. Free shirt – ready to start filling up more bags with swag….and wait, I hate swag!
Zip lining, rock climbing, cattle roping (granted it is using a fake bull and you are not sitting on a moving horse) tons of giveaways and even scuba diving – there’s something for everyone.

Great to have had the chance to talk with you a little bit, Dave. I’m quite impressed with your time efficiency — already a recap blog post of the Travel Show. Congratulations on your T-shirt win. I won a Zagat Guide. Woot!
