I am always researching travel sites and travel blogs and came across one several years ago, Watermelon Nomads, run by the husband wife team of Greg and Alexandra – a quote on their website by Alexandra inspired me to write them at that time.
“I believe now that the richness of a travel experience is given by the ability of switching perspectives. We live in a world of cliches, where our image and feelings about a place usually come either from a sensationalist media, or from a greedy tourism industry, which both thrive on our ignorance”…
This morning in the kitchen of the hostel I’m staying at in Bucharest, Romania I saw a flyer on the refrigerator that indicated offering visits and homestays in small out of the way Romanian villages. I went to the website – and submitted their contact form as one of the villages isn’t that far from Bucharest and mentioned being surrounded by lots of fruit orchards and vineyards, both of which are very strong interests of mine.
A few hours later I went back to the site and checked out their ‘about us’ page – whoa, I recognized both of the founder’s photos! Several years ago they they were not even running this village immersion website – Village Life – after a quick email, and phone calls to the husband wife team of Alexandra & Greg – I’m set for a visit in the AM. Def looking forward to this!
