I expect that when many of you think of historic places to visit, Malta is not at the top of your list. No problem, as many don’t think of Malta in those terms. The truth is that Malta has a high concentration of history and ancient architecture as well as many modern features for tourist. For those of you that may be interested in a trip to Malta, here are a few things to check out.
The Lazy Island of Gozo
If you have ever wanted to hop into a time machine and see what life was like decades ago, then you should visit Gozo. This small island has a much slower and simpler lifestyle than many of us are accustomed to but is a must see when traveling to Malta.
Some of the things to see in Gozo include the Citadella, the impressive Gjantija Temples, as well as the ta’Phinu Sanctuary.
Malta Casinos
I know that visiting a casino is not exactly at the top of everyone’s travel list, but we all have to have something to do when we are done with our daytime tours. While gambling in the area is still growing, there are still several casinos that guests can visit.
St. Julian’s boast one of the most impressive casinos in the Portomaso Casino. Not only do they offer most standard gambling that you would expect, but they have a wide offering of poker. In fact, they will soon be hosting the Battle of Malta event in November that will draw professionals from around the world to the Portomaso. They are hoping that this event will help grow not just their casino, but gambling in the region.
Historical Valletta
Malta’s capital is a must see for any fan of history. The city was built in 1566 and while there are many modern upgrade, the city still by and large looks as it did nearly 450 years ago.
There are three museums to see in Valletta in the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National War Museum, and the National Museum of Archaeology. Those of you that are into great theater should check out the Manoel Theatre. The theatre was built over 300 years ago and it still numerous performances annually.
If the above attractions are not enough, you also have Mdina, the Megalithic temples from 3,600 BC and Comino. Malta has so much to do and see that you should check out the options that best suit you prior to visiting, however it is definitely a destination you should put on your “must see” list.
