Back in the village in Eastern Thailand – 90 minutes from Poipet on the Cambodia border – nice to have some pleasant weather – two days ago hot with fans needed at night – now blankets needed! Village is only 2 homes (used to be about 6 homes) but population swelled dramatically the past few days when friends moved in along with all their tents!
Enjoying home made coconut ice cream along with lots of fried insets we are catching with the blue lights which light up small beds of water all night. After all these years its amazing to finally have high speed internet within the village. We’ve strung a very long cable through the window to our home next door – 6mb of speed. Pretty sweet!
Its always nice to enjoy all the bounties of the village. We have smoked out a wild bee hive and collected the fresh honey. Nothing like chewing on honeycomb and we drizzled the honey into an old 285 Blend Whiskey bottle for safekeeping! Coconuts grow around the village and we collected a number of those today. The fresh produce comes from small gardens grown on the burms seperating the water supplies and fish ponds. Every other morning I grab buckets and collect water for the garden by hand from the fish ponds. Today unfortuantely the chickens totally raided the garden and ate every last leaf 🙁
Those pesky chickens – there are hundreds roaming around – Syy’s brother raises fighting cocks – cages and cages surround their home – which pales in size compared to the extensive chicken compound. You walk through their pens and they all trip over one another to flee the human. You walk through their pen during the feeding window in late afternoon and they can’t get close enough to you – surrounding your feet and pecking at the ground even if you haven’t yet brought food. Crazy!
