First Date by Mark Scott
If all first dates went the way of this one, there would never be any second dates. Ever. Period. A suicidal jump off a bridge in the dead of winter at night led to a second jump. Both individuals survived, their drifting in the icy waters stopped by an anchored barge. The jump remarkably left them physically not much worse for the wear. More than 200 pages covers a span of time from the jump late at night until early the next morning, a period … [Read more...]
Sofiero Palace and Gardens – August 2024
These beautiful gardens are about a 10-minute drive from the historical center of Helsingborg. Parking is free, in a small gravel lot directly across from the entrance. The estate dates back to 1864 when Swedish royalty, Prince Oscar and his wife Sophie built the magnificent castle. Prince Gustaf Adolf (who later became king) tended the gardens for many years. These gardens were a summer home for Swedish royalty until as recently as the 1970 … [Read more...]
The Convenient Travel Guide to Visiting Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia used to be one of the most difficult countries to secure a tourist visa. Several years ago on a flight from Bangkok to Vietnam I remember reading an article mentioning that policies regarding travel to the country would be changing in the coming years. I made a mental note to keep an eye open for that. I was able to visit last year, spending the majority of my time in Dammam. Traveling to Saudi Arabia can be an exhilarating … [Read more...]
Adventures Await: ATV and Snowmobile Tours on Alaska’s Hatcher Pass
One of my favorite 'get away from it all' states is Alaska. I've been a number of times and always enjoyed the open highways, the wildlife, the fishing, the majestic mountains and exploring at my own pace without the hassles of traffic and crowds. Nestled within the Talkeetna Mountains, Hatcher Pass is a veritable paradise for adventure seekers, offering a stunning backdrop for both ATV and snowmobile tours. This Alaskan gem, renowned for its … [Read more...]
Exploring Paradise: Key West Boat Tours
Whenever I am in south Florida, I always take a day or two to drive down to the keys. I usually fly into the Fort Lauderdale airport as its smaller and easier to navigate than Miami. My favorite time to visit is in December and or January when much of the rest of the U.S. is experiencing cold weather. Key West, the southernmost point of the continental United States, is a tropical paradise known for its vibrant culture, historic sites, and … [Read more...]
Exploring the High Country: ATV and UTV Tours in Leadville, Colorado
One of my favorite states in the U.S. is Colorado. During my last big road trip I spent several weeks driving, hiking and biking through its mountains. Nestled high in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of over 10,000 feet, Leadville, Colorado, is a hidden gem for adventure enthusiasts. This historic mining town offers a plethora of outdoor activities, but none are as exhilarating as the ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) and UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) … [Read more...]
Bavarian Clothing and German Outfits: Fashion for Oktoberfest
I've always loved my time in Germany, primarily spent in Frankfurt and Mainz but I've also been fortunate to have visited other parts of the country including Heidelberg (famous for its old castle) and Munich, known world over for its Oktoberfest. This famous beer festival held annually in Munich, is not just about savoring fine brews and delicious food; it’s also a celebration of Bavarian culture and tradition. A significant part of this … [Read more...]
A Visit to Interesting Places, Northern Iraq
From Erbil, we make the tiny mountain community of Lalish in a little more than an hour including being waived through several police checkpoints. Arriving at Lalish a guard stationed on the road leading to the community told us we needed to remove our shoes for the duration of our visit. No sooner than we had done so, a gentleman passing by asked if we would like to join him for lunch. Lunch was held inside a large room surrounded by men sitting … [Read more...]
Balboa Park, San Diego CA – July 2024
Located mere minutes from downtown San Diego this 1200 acre park is a mix of museums, gardens, theatres, appealing architecture and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. The oldest museum in the park is the San Diego Natural History Museum founded in 1874. And the park is home to the world’s largest outdoor pipe organ. Arguably the center of the park is along 'museum corridor' a walk way passing by the most prominent of the museums and one of the most … [Read more...]
