Each year, a myriad of yogis worldwide pick Thailand as their next yoga retreat destination.
So what makes this country an ideal match for your yoga retreat or holiday?
Wonder no more, here are 7 reasons why a Thailand yoga retreat is an experience not to be missed by any yoga lover:
1. Yoga-friendly climate
Thailand’s climate is comparable to that of south and central India, which is ideal for yoga! You’ll be sweating constantly, allowing your body to naturally detoxify.
This warm, humid environment also helps you to stretch more deeply and makes all your joints lubricated, which greatly enhances your yoga practice.
2. Limitless offering of yoga holidays and vacations
Thailand has several yoga hubs with thriving yoga communities and plenty of retreats in almost any style and proficiency level. From the most common styles such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hatha, and Yin Yoga to the less known and ‘exotic’ like Zen yoga, Integral yoga, or even Laughter yoga, you’ll surely find options that’ll suit you.
3. Mindful culture & inclusive community
Thai values are deeply rooted in Theravada Buddhism, the nation’s main religion. This peace-loving culture, promoting harmony over conflict, creates an environment favorable for cultivating inner balance and mindfulness.
Many yogis notice that practicing yoga in Thailand doesn’t feel the same as in their home country. It almost feels as though Thailand’s Buddhist culture infiltrates in the way the teachers structure their classes and communicate with the students.
The country’s unofficial name, ‘the Land of Smiles’, perfectly summarizes the warm-hearted hospitality of the Thai people. They even defined 13 different types of smile (each of which has its own name) that help to maintain positive attitude through a variety of situations.
This positive environment charges visitors with good energy and enthusiasm. Hence, it’s no surprise that yoga holidays in Thailand are known for their inclusive community feel and creating relationships that last a lifetime.
4. Beach & jungle: the best of both worlds
Doing yoga on a picture perfect white-sand beach is a dream for many. As Thailand is made up of around 1,430 unique and wildly beautiful islands, you have a rare opportunity to ‘hop’ from one yoga retreat to another. This means that you have a chance to benefit from exposure to the variety of teachers and classes.
If you prefer to practice yoga in the humid jungle, Thailand offers amazing retreats in the northern region of Chiang Mai, Pai, and Chiang Rai which is famous for its relaxing meditation & yoga retreats.
6. Availability all year round
Thanks to the average temperature of 77-86 degrees Fahrenheit (25-30 degrees Celsius), you would be able to find plenty of yoga retreats or vacations available for you to join all year round.
7. Holistic wellness experience
Thailand is also a known destination for all things wellness, so your retreat will most likely include complementary wellness activities such as acupuncture, pranayama, Reiki, aromatherapy, aqua healing, and the renowned Thai massages.
Thai massage is sometimes referred to as a ‘lazy’ form of yoga because your masseur is doing the stretching and bodywork for you. This type of massage can help you to lower stress, boost energy, and stimulate blood circulation, so it’s a great addition to your daily yoga sessions.

I have been in KohSamui to Vikasa every single day off for the past 4 months while living on the island. This is truly a magical place . A huge shoutout to George, with who I have been taking private classes every week and who has made me fall in love with yoga, his energy is contagious and his practices are always so much fun. The views are just breathtaking and the life cafe is delicious! Very original dishes and always the healthiest ingredients. I also would like to say a big thank you to all the waiters who always remember my name every time I go there (thank you AOF for always coming up to me and asking how my week went). Every week after my yoga class I get a massage with the loveliest three ladies from the spa, it’s located overlooking the ocean and truly the best location I’ve ever gotten a massage. If you are considering Vikasa please please please do yourself a favor and just book it. I My mom has just come to Thailand to visit me and I told her she had to stay there and after 5 nights she feels completely recharged and motivated to get back into yoga. Thank you so much Vikasa for always preparing me to face a new week feeling rebalanced and recharged
