Many of these hotels are located very close to Oaxaca’s zocalo (center of town). Prices listed are in USD and range from one person/1 bed/1 room to 2 persons/2 beds/1 room. When dialing any phone number from abroad, one needs to dial Mexico’s country code first (+52) before the local phone number. Since Oaxaca is frequented by many travelers (at least the central part of town) I found that the prices for lodging were a bit higher then in less visited parts of Mexico.

- Casa de las Bugambilias is the parent of two other small B&B’s in Oaxaca called Casa de los Milagros and Casa de los Sabores. This intimate B&B is centrally located. Prices start at $75/night – been in business since 1988. Website: www.lasbugambilias.com
- Casa Colonial has been run by North Americans for over 40 years – this is a very unique hotel – note the purple door! Current owner, Jane Robinson has run this hotel for 20+ years. Also ask about her very personalized tours of the area. The hotel surrounds a courtyard with tropical gardens – a living room and library are also on site. - Hotel Fortin Plaza is rated 2 stars and is located in Colonia Estrella on Mex 190. The address is Venus Ave #118. This hotel has 95 rooms and is 2 stories. They have a restaurant. Their prices range from $47 to $53 all year long. Their FAX NUMBER is (951) 5-1328 and their Phone Number is (951) 5-7777.
- Hotel Senorial is located on the eastern side of the main zocalo on Portal de Flores. Features 127 rooms within 3 stories. My impression of the place was that it was a bit dingy. I was also given similar impressions by people who had stayed there. They also have a dining room. For more information call Phone Number (951) 6-3933.
- Hotel Gala, a part of the Oaxaca Hotel Group is located just 1/2 a block south east of the zocalo. It is located about a block directly south of Hotel Senorial on the same street. This is a charming very clean hotel. I had no problems when I stayed here. The only thing that I could see being a problem is that they have no elevators and you have to climb a minimum of 20 steps to the first floor. There are 3 stories. - La Noria Centro Histórico Hotel Boutique is a gorgeous 4-star hotel located in a restored colonial mansion very close to the main Zocalo. Note they have 3-stories, but no elevator. Parking is available indoors. All rooms are decorated colonial style.
- Paulina Hostel comes highly recommended to me by a fellow traveler. This hostel is located at Trujano 321 esquina basically 3 blocks west of the main Zocalo (central park). This is a very clean, beautiful & safe place to stay. Private rooms and dormitories available. A very nice breakfast is included with your stay. Prices start at around $12/night. Discounts given to members of certain hostel organizations.
- Hotel Mariposas Las Mariposas is a small, family-run hotel with a friendly, relaxed guesthouse atmosphere – only 13 rooms. In business since the mid 1980’s. They offer bed and breakfast to all kinds of international travelers. Website: www.hotellasmariposas.com
- Quinta Real Oaxaca is located 4 blocks north of the Zocalo between Murguia & Abasolo streets at 5 De Mayo. This hotel was once a 16th century convent. And several premium hotel brands have owned it over the years. The latest is Quinta Real and probably won’t be the last ownership change. The rooms feature high ceilings – also a fountain courtyard. Has three stories and street parking. A heated pool is also available. At one point the hotel underwent major renovation. Prices range from $200 to $350 depending on the time of the year.
