This popular restaurant is located 5 blocks in from the Bahia de la Habana (harbor) on Concordia Street. Like other restaurants in Havana, a small sign is the only notice of its existence. Or maybe you will spot someone waiting on the first floor and upon inquiry, you will be directed up stairs. There are no signs for the restaurant once you enter this ancient looking building dating from the early 1900s – like other parts of Havana entering the building is like walking back in time – a period of opulence which clearly has not been maintained. Follow the once grand old staircase to the 3rd floor passing by several broken marble statues and peeling paint on the walls.
This restaurant opened in 1996 and is popular with visitors to the city – including those from cruise ships who find their way to this part of town. During our visit we found the staff spoke English. Prior to the restaurant this building was used in what was arguably Cuba’s most famous film, Strawberry and Chocolate (nominated for an Oscar award).
The restaurant offers a variety of cuisine – from duck to fish and some tasty salads. Also a pleasing drink list with an excellent Mojito. Compared to most other restaurants in this part of town, quite expensive. One of the more unique luxury restaurant venues that we have ever frequented.
Be sure to walk out on the terrace (near their restroom) for excellent views overlooking the city skyline.
