Cities located near Lake Tahoe are listed with their respective accommodations. The prices below range from the lowest (off season single person) to the highest (holidays and weekends/dbl. person). The room rates will be higher during the winter months because of the ski season. Dave will be sure to provide additional comments if he has visited or stayed at any of the following hotels/motels/inns.
Another option if you have a large group and do not want to stay at at hotel or motel is to rent a home. Home rentals are popular in the Incline Village area, Truckee area, Myers, Tahoe Keys and other parts of South Shore.

June is Dave’s favorite month to visit The Lake. The crowds are less, the weather is decent, dust is usually less than the later summer months, and prices for lodging tend to be a little lower.

CRYSTAL BAY
is located on Tahoe’s north shore.
Tahoe Biltmore was established in 1946 and always makes for a nice stop when you find yourself in this part of the lake. Old school property but Rooms have been refurbished and updated. - The Resort at Squaw Creek is rated four stars and is a resort complex. This is a new very fancy resort that is the most noticeable building in Squaw Valley. You can’t miss it, the main building is jet black and rises high above the nearby pines. They are located near a 18 hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., near one of the ski runs, and only a mile or two from the main Squaw Valley USA base camp. There is a large pool and water slide in their patio area and also a spa. They are located 0.3 miles from the Squaw Valley entrance at 400 Squaw Creek Road. - Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is rated three stars and is located as close to the Nevada State line as you can possibly be without being a gambling casino. I mentioned this resort in the GAMBLING section. Its a new resort, fairly large and quite impressive inside. When you enter this resort and look up you will be able to see all the different levels of this resort. There is a restaurant in the lower section and also small waterfalls, and a variety of assorted plants. The Casinos are all within minutes walking distance. Motel 6 is located at 2375 Lake Tahoe Blvd – the budget leader across the country in hotels in a part of Lake Tahoe that is full of budget hotels. Heated outdoor pool. Chidlren 17 years of age and under stay free with adult family member.
National 9 Inn is located at 3901 Pioneer Trail. Good location as within a fairly short walk to area casinos and the minutes walk and Heavenly’s Gondola lift.
Pinewood Inn is located at 3818 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Dated and small rooms. Basic one story motel.
Skylake Lodge is located at 2644 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Established in 1952 the lodge has undergoing renovations more recently – features mountain style accommodation.

Travel Inn is located at 3536 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Fairly short walk to the beach and under 2 miles from Heavenly Ski Resort. 24/7 front desk. Very basic. Very reasonable off season rates.

Harrah’s Hotel and Casino is where Dave usually frequents. See the section on Gambling for more information about this casino. The bottom floor is devoted to gambling, the upper stories are rooms, and the top floor contains two restaurants, one called The Summit Room. The Summit Room is quite expensive and was voted one of the top ten restaurants in the US, and the other restaurant is located near the summit and is a buffet restaurant. The food is also quite good in the buffet restaurant with outstanding views of the Sierras and of Lake Tahoe. The buffet restaurant was recently remodeled in 2000 and reopened with new and improved dishes. For the3 price you can’t beat this meal.
There are also five other restaurants in Harrah’s. Harrah’s is located in the Casino Center. Their prices range from $109 to $279. Phone (775) 588-6611.

Harvey’s has 19 stories and 740 rooms. Harvey’s resort is the longest operating large casino in the United States. They first opened for business in a log cabin in 1944. The original casino contained three slot machines, two blackjack tables and a small 24 hour gas station. Harvey’s did a major upgrade on their resort in 1980 and suffered physical damage to their resort when a bomb planted by an extortionist was tripped by experts. The bomb blew out 5 stories of the structure and at the time you could see right through the building. Harvey’s has bounced back from that dark incident remarkably well. Montbleu Tahoe is a huge casino located within walking distance of all the action of State line. This casino in the league of State line’s “Big Three” casinos, the other two being Harrah’s and Harvey’s. This used to be the old Ceasar’s Casino. Room prices range from $89 to $400. River Ranch Lodge is located on Highway 89 between Truckee and Tahoe City. This lodge sits right next to the Truckee river at a large pond in the river where the river rafters end their journey. Activity surrounding this lodge can be quite hectic in the summer time because of all the raft traffic. They are located at the corner of the road that leads up to Alpine Meadows Ski resort. Mourelatos Resort is located at 6834 North Lake Blvd in Tahoe Vista. This long time Greek family owned resort is rated 4 stars and is located right on the Lakeside. They have their own very nice sandy beach complete with sun chairs, a whirlpool, and a boat ramp and buoys. If visiting in the summer, be sure to stop in across the street and try some of their delicious Ice Cream! Families stay here year after year – reserve early. They are located 3 miles from Cal/Neva and the north shore gambling casinos. Waterfront studios and suites available. Tahoe Cedars Lodge is one of those rare resorts where the price is affordable, the views are scenic, new friends are found and families vacation here year after year. We spent two weeks here every summer for the past 27 years. Note: this resort is CLOSED but this information is kept here for nostalgia and reference purposes.
Tahoe Cedars Lodge was rated one star and consisted of approximately 11 historic rustic cabins on lakefront property. There were no phones or televisions in any of the cabins – this was part of the charm and appeal. This was a resort where you bring several good books and a willingness to embrace a slower pace of life. More information available here

– The main street that runs through South Lake Tahoe is Lake Tahoe Blvd. Many of the motels/hotels/resorts are located on this Blvd. This Blvd runs for several miles from the “Y” through state line. This is also budget motel row – with very basic budget motels lined up all along Lake Tahoe Blvd. The “Y” is the junction of Highway 50, Highway 89 and Lake Tahoe Blvd. South Lake Tahoe is the largest city near Lake Tahoe. The population is just over 24,000. From the looks of the skyline of South Lake Tahoe and the Casinos at State line you would think this is a city of a much larger population.
Emerald Bay Lodge is named after the gorgeous bay within Lake Tahoe. This property is located at 735 Emerald Bay Road, South. Location is not far from the beach. Wifi included. Also a seasonal outdoor pool. Visit: www.emeraldbaylodge.org
