Guinness Storehouse is a large complex of buildings located at St James’s Gate in Dublin Ireland. Guinness has truly developed a cult-like following over the years – since it’s founding in 1759. A visit here will immediately clarify this – even during a recent visit on a weekday somewhat off season the storehouse was super crowded with visitors.
A visit here is like a walk back in time to another era of old austere looking brick factory buildings. Visits are not simply a walk through a museum and your plans should include at least half a day here. There are numerous floors which present various themes based on their beer including the process of creating the products, the history of the company, tasting rooms and on the higher levels several restaurants
The uppermost level contains a special tasting room (the Gravity Bar) which is surrounded by glass windows and affords one great 360 degree views of Dublin. Chances are you will also have 360 degree views of people – it gets crazily crowded here at times. But as expected, most everyone here is here for the beer and spirits are high – in part being fueled by the product and the excitement at being at the Guinness world headquarters!
Be sure to purchase your tickets online or from one of the Information centers scattered around central Dublin. This will often save you significant time compared to purchasing a ticket on site where the lines tend to be very long at times. If you have a pre purchased ticket – you will be able to skip the lines for the onsite ticket sales.
The Guinness Store located on the lower level is huge and is a must visit for Guinness enthusiasts. It carries almost every kind of Guinness schwag imaginable.
