I will be in Bangladesh for almost 2 weeks in mid Jan 09. Has anyone visited this country before, and if so do you have any recommendations for what to see, especially south of Dhaka. I am thinking of taking a boat down one of the many riverways that connect to the ocean south of the capital city.
Thanks.
Regards,
Dave
Just got back from Bangladesh – amazing country full of really nice people. VERY few tourists every go to this country and perhaps not many people from ‘western’ countries can even identify its location on the map.
There are some highlights among the crazy madness of the traffic in Dhaka including old Dhaka, some shopping, the river, the National Museum, the Pink Palace and more.
The Sundarbans are the world’s largest mangrove swamp and these are worth visiting if you have the time. The Royal Bengal tiger still lives in these swamps and if you are very lucky you may be able to see one.
I will post several journals about my time in Bangladesh in the coming weeks.
Regards,
Dave
nepalexpeditionAre there any mountain for trekking and expedition in bangladesh? Are there any trekking and expedition operators?
Bangladesh is extremely flat – there are some hills and even views of the Himalayas from the far north of the country but thats about it. For obvious reasons this country is not a mountain climbing mecca.
