Rick Steves Rolling Carry-On ($159.99)
(Editors Note: we have used Rick’s 2012 model for almost a year now and have been very happy with its performance both as a roll aboard and as a backpack). The low center of gravity is key – this is a bag that doesn’t topple over!. Read our review from last year)
In a world of ever-tightening carry-on requirements, Rick Steves’ all-new Rolling Carry-On is designed for today’s traveler who demands light weight, durability and go-anywhere flexibility. Measuring 13½” x 20″ x 9″, the Rolling Carry-On easily fits in the smaller overhead cabin bins of European carriers (20” in length is their standard for wheeled luggage). With handy top and bottom grab handles, tossing it up there is a snap. When a traveler needs to carry more, the bag expands for an extra 2″ of cargo depth (making it “fatter” than the carry-on limit, but perfect for checking).
The back half of this bag — a resilient, 1-piece, molded shell frame — protects all that’s inside, and saves lots of weight. At just over 6 lbs, Rick Steves’ Rolling Carry-On is one of the lightest bags in its class. The Rolling Carry-On’s flexible front half (made from 100% recycled polyester fabric) and classic Rick Steves outer podave@davestravelcorner.comcket design, combine to give it a clean, efficient look. A full-length side zipper opens to reveal a 12” x 20” compartment (perfect for a jacket). Three additional front pockets (large, medium and small), a pair of padded grab handles, and an add-a-bag strap (adjustable and removable) complete the outside.
The Rolling Carry-On zips open to reveal a generous 2,430 cubic-inch main compartment (expands to 2,970 cubic inches) with adjustable compression straps, a clip-in document pouch with two mesh drawstring bags, and a full-length zippered mesh lid compartment. The twin-shaft, two-stage handle and wide-stance (10½” track) wheels keep the Rolling Carry-On stable over uneven surfaces.
Color choices include Black, Graphite, Blue Spruce, Plum, and Camel.
