Rick Steves Rolling Backpack (Reviewed: Jul 2012) Leave it to Rick Steves to combine the simplicity of backpack with the convenience of a roll a board. Roll the “Rolling Backpack” around for ease at the airport or at your hotel but shoulder it in situations where its better on your back then on the ground (crowds, nasty sidewalks etc). After sitting around for a month or two we were itching to put this to the road test. A trip to Thailand, Japan and India was the perfect opportunity.
With the rigors of hopping around a number of airports in a relatively short time as well as bouncing between metros the “Rolling Backpack” stood up exceptionally well. Its rugged wheels can handle a variety of surfaces and when needed while negotiating the pot hole filled streets of Chennai we quickly connected the shoulder straps and hoisted it as a backpack. The Rolling Backpack clocks in at just over 5.5 pounds – it has a water resistant exterior and the shell is made from 100% recycled material. It is a perfect fit for today’s travel road warrior! NOTE: after extensive testing, this product does not hold up to the rigors of travel for very long. And became another travel bag casualty after a number of uses.

The rolling backpack in this picture is the one I like. Rick Steve’s travel store does not show the same one.
New smaller European airlines guaranteed size is 50 x 40 x 20 cm (19.68 x 15.74 x 7.87).
Is this new bag size in the works. That extra 1.5″ for width would be helpful!
Thank you, Carole
