As well as being favored for its travel opportunities, when it comes to global migration, the US is still one of the most favored destinations of migrants all over the world. Despite the somewhat negative press coverage about the United States in recent years, millions of tourist and migrants dream of a life in the USA and the opportunity to experience the culture and lifestyle of this unique country. While tourists flock here for the country’s vast and diverse landscape and culture, migrants come in search of new opportunities. For hardworking and well qualified individuals, the US is still a gateway to endless opportunities really.
When landing in The US, you can see that there is still this notion of striving for this American Dream – in both smaller suburban towns along with the big metropolises. Nothing represents ‘The Dream’ better than the stunning and buzzing city of New York with its iconic Statue of Liberty who’s representation of freedom stands for the idea that anyone in America has the chance to make it big.
For those starting their travels in The United States, its close proximity of to other exotic destinations makes the country appealing to have as a base as well. In the same way as every country in the world, the USA is not without its problems, many of which are often publicized in the media. Nevertheless, there is still a strong entrepreneurial spirit even today keeping the American Dream alive. For immigrants coming to the States carrying solid professional qualifications or with a willingness to work hard, there are plenty of opportunities for establishing a life for yourself.
Taking a shot at The US
When looking at migration, there are always push and pull factors, explaining the reasons why people want to migrate. As the name appears to suggest, push factors are those associated with emigrating, while pull factors refer to reasons why immigrants arrive in a particular country. While social, cultural and religious factors often play a significant role in migration, the main motive for migration is usually an economic one. The main pull factors are often related to more job opportunities, higher incomes, and better educational and professional opportunities.
However for nomadic slow travelers, it is of course more about the experience of learning something new about a place or about oneself. As the country and continent is so huge, the diversity of the American continent and The USA for that matter is just as interesting as say backpacking around SEA. Especially when taking your time around smaller towns or culturally active cities like Portland or San Francisco. Looking at these factors, it seems unsurprising that the US still attracts a large amount of vistors from all over the world. The country still has one of the world’s highest GDP per capita, with a strong job market and a well-functioning infrastructure.
Nevertheless, sometimes coming to the US for an extended period of time is often accompanied by extensive paperwork and bureaucracy which can often take up to one year to process. The ease of being able to visit or migrate to the US is often dependent on your educational background, professional experience and country of origin. One of the easiest and fastest ways of being granted permanent residency and the right to work if you plan on an Overseas Experience in the US is through the Green Card Lottery System. More information about this procedure can be found here. To be eligible to participate in this lottery system, all you need is a minimum of 12 years of school education or a minimum amount of work experience. With a bit of luck, you might be experiencing the concept of The American Dream yourself.

Readers should be aware that the link in this article does not take you to a U.S. government website nor even to the website of a U.S. based business. It takes you to a fee for service company based in Germany. There is a logo on the page that says only “Government Licensed”. You have to read the fine print at the very, very bottom of the footer to be told that this is a company “licensed” by the German government whatever that means. I am not passing judgment on the quality of this company’s work. I know nothing about them other than that I find their website somewhat deceptive.
