The small town of Las Terrenas sits on the edge of the northern part of the country on the Semana Peninsula. Arguably some of the best beaches in the Dominican Republic are located here. The town itself is busy with lots of little shops and services and makes a good stop for food. You don’t want to spend much time in town – rather head north to the beaches. Lodging, food, and a number of water activity shops are spread out along the beaches.
Kite surfing is quite popular as the beaches in this area can have a fairly steady wind. Several outfitters offer training – usually lasting between 6-9 hours spread out over several days.
Lodging ranges from luxury to budget. One of the nicer luxury resorts is Semana Sublime located just west of Las Terrenas – most quickly accessed via the fairly expensive toll road (if you are coming from Punta Cana or Santo Domingo). They have their own beach, restaurant, spa and poolside cabanas. The best thing to do here is not much. Swim, sunbathe and hit the spa. Rooms are spacious. This is a quiet resort to whittle away a few days or more.
